GLBT Endorsements online at Latino Sexual Odyssey

by Fran Eaton

If you want to know who Equality Illinois PAC is endorsing in the 2006 primary, you can find it easily at the Latino Sexual Odyssey.

GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender) advocate and blogger Carlos T. Mock, formerly a Chicago-based ob-gyn, lists all Equality Illinois' favorites.

Not surprisingly, the list includes five openly gay candidates, one of whom serves now in the Illinois House. Equality Illinois encourages the GLBT community to vote as follows:

Tom Chiola for Judge Vote YES to retain
Larry McKeon for State Rep 13th District, Mark #21 (incumbent)
Mike McHale for Cook County Judge Mark #72
Mary Colleen Roberts for Judge 11th Sub-Circuit, Mark #90
Debra Shore for MWRD Mark #43

All Democratic candidates for constitutional officers are endorsed. Two Republicans got the thumbs-up: Dan Rutherford (Secretary of State) and Christine Radogno (Treasurer).

Only one candidate has the words "DO NOT VOTE FOR . . ." That candidate is Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Oberweis. Illinois Family Institute reported yesterday that gays held a protest outside Wednesday night's debate, where gay activists mocked Oberweis' position on one-man/one-woman marriage by comparing Oberweis to Hitler.

No indication is given as to how the endorsements were earned.
