Michael L. Jackson, a former Chicago HIV/AIDS communications specialist charged in the murder of a cabdriver and the assault of a nurse, has been charged with having sexual relations in the DuPage County Jail and not disclosing that he is HIV positive.

Jackson, 38, has been in the DuPage County Jail since May, charged in the reckless assault of a nurse at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove on April 10, 2005. He allegedly tried to punch her and spit on her during treatment for a drug overdose.

At the time of his arrest in Downers Grove, Jackson was free on $750,000 bail after being charged in the February 2005 slaying of a Chicago cabdriver.

In the latest incident, DuPage County sheriff officials charged the defendant with misdemeanor reckless conduct Tuesday for being sexually active without telling any participant he was HIV positive, according to DuPage County Circuit court clerk records.

Specific details about the incident have not been released.

Jackson had worked for the Chicago Department of Public Health's sexually transmitted disease HIV/AIDS division as a policy and communications specialist for more than a year when he was charged with the murder of the cabdriver, Haroon Paryani, 61, after a quarrel over a fare on a North Side street. Jackson has pleaded not guilty in the murder charge.

Jackson is being held in the DuPage County Jail on a $250,000 bond for the aggravated battery case and a $5,000 bond in Tuesday's reckless conduct case. If he were released from the DuPage Jail, he would be returned to the Cook County Jail where a no bond warrant has been issued.

Jackson's murder trial in Cook County is expected to be held this summer. A status hearing on his DuPage County assault case is set for June 6. No date has been set for his new reckless conduct charge.
