The National Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Centers ( NALGBTCC ) has announced the appointment of Center on Halsted Executive Director Robbin Burr as a co-chair of the organization’s board of directors.
Burr is the first executive director of Center on Halsted ( previously known as Horizons Community Services, started more than two decades ago ) . Prior to joining the center, she was a pioneer in LGBT programs during her 25-year career with American Airlines. She was an original member and the first woman to serve on the American Airlines Rainbow TeAAm, one of the first LGBT marketing and sales forces established by a Fortune 100 company.

In an e-mail to Windy City Times, Burr commented that she is “extraordinarily honored and delighted to have been elected. I love working with the amazing group of accomplished individuals who serve on the National Association of LGBT Community Centers board of directors. The National Association is such an important tool. It is the only organization that provides a link and works to strengthen community centers across the country.”

Burr will serve as co-chair along with Richard Burns, the executive director of The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center in New York City. Lorri L. Jean ( CEO of the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center ) is the new secretary, and Kent Burbank ( executive director of Wingspan—Tucson, Ariz.’s LGBT community center ) will serve as treasurer. In their leadership roles, they will work with the association board as it oversees the strategic direction of NALGBTCC while guiding the association as it strives to, among other things, build capacity and increase diversity.
